Expectations Should Never Exceed Communication

If you don’t communicate you need help with something, you have little right to be upset if no one helps you.

If you don’t communicate a preference about something,  you shouldn’t be frustrated if someone else doesn’t acknowledge your preference.

While the result of unmet expectations may be disappointment, the cause of unmet expectations is often lack of communication.

Perhaps New Testament writer James is sharing a version of ‘expectations should never exceed communication’ in James 4:2b when he writes ‘you do not have because you do not ask God.’

True, God knows everything so it’s different than a human on human interaction, yet His Word tells us there will be times that we shouldn’t expect something if we don’t ask for it.

Do you have expectations of God that you haven’t shared with Him?  Perhaps they are things you are disappointed about but maybe you haven’t asked for them.

·      Why don’t I have a passion for God’s Word?

·      Why is it so hard for me to pray?

·      Why is it so easy for me to get angry?

·      Why haven’t you shown me Your purpose for my life?

Are there ways you need God to intervene in your life such as bringing peace, joy, gratitude, wisdom, healing? If so, persevere in asking God in His Name and let your expectations grow as your communication does.
