He Paid the Price…

While in Brazil on a business trip many years ago, there was a knock on my hotel room door.  I opened the door and two men in maintenance attire (drab green shirt and pants) asked if they could come in to check on something (I think it was the thermostat).  I let them in, they checked whatever they were checking and left.

As I closed the door behind them, I saw a note on the back of the door I hadn’t noticed before.  The note told guests that the hotel would never send anyone up to any rooms unless they called first to notify the guests and that guests should never open their door to anyone unless first receiving a call from the hotel.

I remember being very shaken by what had happened.  Had they scoped out the room and left after seeing nothing of value?  Had they checked me out and decided no one would pay a ransom for me?

They were right in that there was nothing of much value to steal, but they were wrong because there is One who already paid the ultimate ransom for me.

Mark 10:45 tells us the Son of Man came to give His life as a ransom for many.

Jesus gave His life to pay for my life and to pay for your life.  Because Jesus paid our ransom, we can be free.

Jesus paid the full price for our sins and our redemption.  As the great hymn says, “Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe”.  It was a price we could never pay ourselves.  It was a price no one else could pay for us.

If you have accepted the wonderful gift Jesus offered to pay the ransom for your sins, you are free.  You are free to live in the fruit of that freedom which includes love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22).

If you’ve never accepted the gift of freedom Jesus offers, He is standing at the door of your heart and knocking.  Will you listen to Him and open the door to your heart and let Him in?  If you do, He will come in (Rev 3:20).

Jesus Paid It All, Elvina Hall

And when, before the throne

I stand in Him complete,

‘Jesus died my soul to save,’

My lips shall still repeat.”

Jesus paid it all,

All to Him I owe;

Sin had left a crimson stain,

He washed it white as snow.
