No Mystery At All

If our television is on, it’s likely we’re watching what most of us call a Murder Mystery.  For Elizabeth, they are Murder Knowns.  It seems like she has most of them figured out in the first few minutes.  She won’t spoil it for me, but when the murderer is revealed she sometimes gets this little ‘I knew it’ smile on her face.  I believe her.

She also entertains my amateurish guesses about who did it, but I don’t usually realize who did it until the detective reveals who did it…and after I’ve guessed literally every character in the episode.

I’d probably have better luck figuring out who the killer is, and a far better view, if I just watched her face during the show for a ‘tell’ when she realizes who did it in the first few minutes.

The writer of Psalm 74 wants there to be no mystery about who he is writing about with his ‘it was you…’ statements…

It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters.

It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert.

It was you who opened up springs and streams; you dried up the ever-flowing rivers.

The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon.

It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter. Psalm 74:13-17

Every day we have opportunities to acknowledge and thank God for the work He is doing in and around us with our own version of an ‘it was you…’ statement.

·      God, it was you who brought ____________ into my life that I am so thankful for

·      God, it was you who has never left me or forsaken me

·      God, it was you who provided the _____________ when I needed it most

·      God, it was you who has answered every prayer with perfect timing

·      God, it was you who said to bring everything to you in prayer

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17
