(Re)Defining Success
Ever been asked what you would attempt if you knew you wouldn’t fail?
Ever been asked what you would attempt if you knew you were likely to fail based on some people’s measures?
If you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, how would you define ‘success’ when it comes to following Scriptural directives such as Acts 1:8 to tell others of our faith in Christ?
Hopefully you don’t fall for the fallacy that the only success is if the person you are talking to immediately prays to put their trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior. That can’t be the measure of success. If so, how can so many consider Paul the greatest missionary of all time.
Acts 17:34 records Paul telling people about Jesus and that the response is that “some of the people became followers and believed.”
Acts 28:24 talks of Paul sharing his faith and we read this…Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe.
I Corinthians 9:19-23 said Paul became all things to all people so that by all possible means he might save some.
Even Jesus spoke to people who didn’t believe Him or believe in Him and Jesus is perfect.
If you are a believer in Jesus, don’t put pressure on yourself that shouldn’t be there. Don’t stop yourself from telling someone about the changes God is making in your life out of fear that the person you are talking to may not trust Christ. Understand that God is simply asking you to be a witness for Him and let Him handle the results.
And if you do make the most of an opportunity to talk about what Christ has done in your life and you do it, celebrate it!
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
