The Perfect Answer…

Last night I picked up carry-out for four of us.  I knew the cost of my personal order, but not the costs of the food for the others.   When I arrived at the restaurant, the cashier told me the bill was $73.37.  I expected it to be around $65 but again, I hadn’t done any math, I just made an assumption.

Despite not knowing what I was talking about, I told the cashier I didn’t expect it to cost that much.

Without hesitation she replied, “Well, you ordered a lot of great food.”

Boom!

If she had a mic, she could have dropped it.  If she was George Costanza, she could have walked out on a high note.

I don’t think there is a more concise way she could have responded.  In those brief seconds, she hit me with my responsibility (‘you ordered’) and quantity (‘a lot’) and quality (‘great food’) statements.

I was speechless (which is what I should have been as soon as I walked in).

She had the perfect answer.

If someone asked why you thought you would spend eternity in heaven, do you have the perfect answer?  Hint:  It’s not one of these…

·      Because I’ve done more good things than bad things

·      Because I was brought up in a Christian home and feel like I’ve always been a Christian

·      Because I’m much nicer than most people in the world

·      Because God is love and He will allow me in heaven

The perfect (and only) answer is your personal acceptance of the perfect gift given by the Perfect Savior, Jesus Christ, who paid the highest price (I Cor 6:20) by shedding His perfect blood as the perfect sacrifice to cover our far from perfect lives.

Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved. Acts 16:31a

…righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. Romans 3:22

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Ironically, just knowing the perfect answer to the question above is meaningless unless one acts on it.

If you’ve never confessed your sins and asked Jesus to forgive you and never asked Him to be the Lord of your life, now is the perfect time to do it.  If you’ve never given your life to Jesus who willingly died for your sins and mine, will you do it right now?
